The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team could be designing a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
