Cars in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities mentioned they were notified by a man who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then located many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement state early analysis show the substance was probably human blood.

"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.

A senior political figure commented the incident made him without words and had to be addressed quickly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
